Byron Storer joins the Browns as the special teams coordinator after spending four seasons with the Packers as the assistant special teams coach and has coached for 12 years in the NFL.
Byron Storer was named the Browns special teams coordinator in 2026. He previously served as an assistant special teams coach with the Buccaneers, Raiders and Packers.
Spent the previous four seasons (2022-25) with the Packers. In 2025, P Daniel Whelan set Packers single-season records for punt average (47.8) and net average (43.9). CB Keisean Nixon led the NFL in kickoff return yards in 2022 and 2023, en route to becoming just the fourth player to earn first team All-Pro kick returner honors in consecutive seasons (Mel Gray in 1990-91, Devin Hester in 2006-07 and Cordarrelle Patterson in 2019-20). In 2024, the Packers finished third in the league in opponent average starting field position after kickoffs (28.8), their highest ranking in the category since 1997. K Brandon McManus connected on 20 of 21 field goal attempts in 2024, a 95.2 percentage that ranked second in the NFL and first in team annals among kickers with 20-plus attempts in a season.
Spent 2018-21 with the Raiders organization. In 2021, P AJ Cole led the league with an average of 50.0 yards per punt and ranked fifth in the NFL with a net average of 42.5 yards on his way to earning first-team All-Pro recognition and his first Pro Bowl selection. K Daniel Carlson set a single-season franchise record with 150 points, including a team-record 40 field goals. Carlson earned second-team All-Pro honors and was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Weeks 2, 12, 17 and 18, the first NFL kicker to earn the honor four times in a season. In 2020, WR Hunter Renfrow ranked second in the league with an average of 11.5 yards per punt return. In 2019, WR Dwayne Harris ranked second in the league with a 14.1-yard average on punt returns, highlighted by a franchise-record 99-yard touchdown return vs. Denver in Week 16.
From 2014-17, Storer stepped away from the coaching profession to help start a new branch of his family's transportation business, Storer San Francisco. He advanced to general manager, operating commuter shuttle transportation for some of the largest tech companies in the world.
Broke into the coaching ranks with the Buccaneers (2010-11) and the Chargers (2012).
Began collegiate career as a walk-on and ended as a three-time All-Pacific-10 selection at California.
Spent three seasons as a fullback with Tampa Bay, appearing in 25 games before sustaining a career-ending injury. Â
A native of Modesto, Calif., he and his wife, Ashley, have three daughters, Bennie, Lulu and Gal.
