Biography
- Shaq Wilson joined the Browns as a defensive analyst in 2026. Wilson brings three years of experience at the NFL level and over 10 years at the collegiate level.
- Prior to joining the Browns, Wilson spent two seasons with the New York Jets as a defensive assistant coach working with the defensive line (2023) and linebackers (2024).
- In 2024, Wilson assisted in leading a defensive unit that finished third in the NFL in total defense (313.8 yards allowed per game), third in yards per play allowed (5.0), and fourth in passing yards per game allowed (192.6). Additionally, Wilson coached LB Jamien Sherwood who finished the season third overall in the NFL in tackles (158 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, and three passes defensed). and LB Quincy Williams who recorded 116 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, four passes defensed, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
- During the 2023 season, Wilson worked with a defensive line that produced 43 sacks, the unit's most since 1981 and third in the NFL in total defense, allowing just 292.3 yards per game. Wilson coached All Pro DT Quinnen Williams to career-highs in tackles, run tackles for loss and quarterback pressures and top five among all defensive linemen in tackles, run tackles for loss and pressures. Wilson also developed DE Jermaine Johnson who was named to the Pro Bowl in his second season, DE Bryce Huff (10.0) and DT Quinton Jefferson (6.0) who recorded career highs in sacks during the 2023 season. Wilson also coached rookie DE Will McDonald IV who finished third in pressure rate (15.2%).
- A graduate of South Carolina, Wilson turned to his alma mater in 2021 as a defensive analyst after spending the prior three years at Tennessee as an assistant director of football sports performance.
- During the 2017 preseason, Wilson served as a scouting intern with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- Following his playing career at South Carolina, Wilson held various roles for five seasons with the Gamecocks. He began his career in 2013 as a graduate assistant working with the linebackers before moving into a full-time role as the quality control coordinator from 2014-15. He then moved into a recruiting role in 2016, serving as the assistant director of recruiting before serving as the assistant director of football player personnel in 2017.
- A native of Jacksonville, Fla. that Graduated early from First Coast High School in December to enroll at the University of South Carolina in January of 2008. Wilson was the team's leading tackler in 2009 & 2012 as a linebacker for South Carolina while also being voted team captain, and earned his degree in African-American/Black studies.
