Todd Monken re-joined the Browns as head coach on Jan. 28, 2026. Monken has spent 26 seasons coaching on the college level, where he served as head coach at Southern Miss (2013-15) and helped Georgia to consecutive national championships (2021-22). Â He has also spent seven seasons as an offensive coordinator in the NFL, including the 2019 season with the Browns.
Most recently, Monken had a historical run as the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens from 2023-25. During his span, the Ravens finished near the top in several key categories including rushing yards (first with 166.9 per game), yards per game (second with 375.6 per game), points (third with 27.9 per game), yards per play (first with 6.2), passer rating (first with an average of 106.5), fewest interceptions thrown (first with 22), rush average (first with 5.31), rushing touchdowns (third with 70). RB Derrick Henry led all NFL players with 4,683 rushing yards and 44 rushing touchdowns from 2023-25.
In 2023, QB Lamar Jackson was named NFL MVP. In 2024, the Ravens finished with the No. 1 offense in the NFL for the first time in team history as the Ravens became the first team in NFL history with 4,000 yards through the air (4,035) and 3,000 yards on the ground (3,189) in a single season. The unit set a franchise record with 7,224 total yards of offense, the third most in NFL single-season history.
The Ravens had 12 offensive Pro Bowl selections under Monken, including C Tyler Linderbaum (2023-25), FB Patrick Ricard (2024-25), WR Zay Flowers (2024-25), Jackson (2023-24), Henry (2024), T Ronnie Stanley (2024) and G Kevin Zeitler (2023).
Monken spent 2020-22 as the offensive coordinator at the University of Georgia. His innovative offense helped the school capture back-to-back CFP National Championships in 2021 and 2022, as Georgia went 29-1 over those two seasons. He helped develop future Pro Bowlers in TE Brock Bowers, RB James Cook and WR George Pickens and future first-round picks in T Broderick Jones and T Amarius Mims.
During his first stint with the Browns, he led an offense that featured RB Nick Chubb, who finished second in the NFL with 1,494 rushing yards. QB Baker Mayfield threw for 3,827 passing yards, while WRs Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. each recorded a 1,000-yard receiving season. As a team, the Browns had two receivers (Landry and Beckham Jr.) and an RB (Chubb) all eclipse 1,000 scrimmage yards in a season for the first time in club history.
Monken spent three seasons (2016-18) as offensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also coached the wide receivers his first two seasons. Monken's offense rewrote Tampa Bay's record book as the Buccaneers led the NFL in passing yards (14,130) from 2016-18. Following his three-year run as offensive coordinator, his offenses ranked first (415.5 in 2018), fourth (363.5 in 2017) and fifth (346.4 in 2016) in Buccaneers history in yards per game. In 2018, he helped Tampa Bay lead the NFL in passing offense (5,125) and finish third in the league in total offense (6,681). The 2018 Buccaneers set numerous club records, including total yards (6,648), total touchdowns (49), passing yards (5,125), passing touchdowns (36), first downs (388) and points (396). WR Mike Evans thrived under Monken as he earned his first two Pro Bowl selections and topped 1,000 receiving yards in all three seasons.
Monken came to Tampa Bay from Southern Mississippi, where he spent three seasons (2013-15) as head coach. After taking over a program that finished 0-12 the previous season, Monken directed a turnaround that had the Golden Eagles as postseason bowl participants by the end of his third campaign. Under Monken's guidance, Southern Miss posted a 9-5 record in 2015, winning the Conference USA West division and earning an appearance in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.
Before joining Southern Miss, Monken spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Oklahoma State (2011-12), his second stint with the Cowboys, after having worked as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach from 2002-04. During his time as offensive coordinator, the team set school season records for total offensive yards, passing yards, completion percentage, points scored and passing touchdowns. He worked with QB Brandon Weeden and WR Justin Blackmon, who both went on to be first-round picks in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Prior to his second stint at Oklahoma State, Monken spent four seasons (2007-10) working as the wide receivers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his time with Jacksonville, Monken coached WR Reggie Williams, who set a club record with 10 touchdown receptions in 2007.
Before entering the NFL, Monken served as the passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach at LSU from
2005-06, when he helped develop future first-round selections WR Dwayne Bowe and WR Buster Davis.
Monken began his coaching career at Grand Valley State, spending two seasons as a graduate assistant
(1989-90), before holding the same title at Notre Dame (1991-92). He also coached at Eastern Michigan, where he worked as the defensive backs/wide receivers coach (1993-97), before being elevated to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach (1998-99). Monken also served as the running backs coach (2000) and the wide receivers coach (2001) at Louisiana Tech.
A native of Wheaton, Ill., Monken was a three-year letter winner at quarterback for Knox College. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in education leadership from Grand Valley State. He is a member of the Knox College Athletic Hall of Fame.
He and his wife, Terri, have one son, Travis.
