Browns select Miami DE Chad Thomas with No. 67 pick in 2018 NFL Draft

The Browns on Friday selected Miami defensive end Chad Thomas in the third round with the No. 67 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Corbett is the fifth Brown selected in the 2018 draft, joining first-rounders QB Baker Mayfield and DB Denzel Ward and second-rounders OL Austin Corbett and RB Nick Chubb.

"We think he's a guy that can contribute right away," vice president of player personnel Andrew Berry said. "Realistically, he's going to have to earn every opportunity and earn every snap just like every guy that we bring in, but we think he's a very talented, strong, athletic defensive lineman that can play in multiple spots along our front."

Cleveland acquired the pick in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts. The Browns traded the 64th pick for No. 67 and a sixth-round selection (No. 178).

Thomas, a former five-star recruit out of Miami's Booker T. Washington High, emerged as a starter his sophomore year and was at his most productive the past two years. He posted 11 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in 2016 and increased those totals to 12.5 and 5.5, respectively, as a senior.

Thomas joins a defensive line that includes recent draft picks in Myles Garrett, Emmanuel Ogbah and Larry Ogunjobi. "We love the talent and depth at that group. You can never have enough big guys," Berry said.

"We talk about it all the time that along the line of scrimmage that it is really the foundation for your team, and if you have six, seven, eight, nine guys that can play and play in waves, it really makes it easier for the second and third levels of your defense."

The Browns do not have any remaining picks on Day 2. They carry five selections on Day 3.
