QB Dillon Gabriel became the person the offense looked to help generate points when he was named the starting quarterback before Week 5.

Being the starter came with the need to build chemistry with the offense, including WR Jerry Jeudy. Before his first start, Gabriel said he would be surprised if he found anyone who thinks more highly of Jeudy than himself.

Gabriel has targeted Jeudy 18 times in his first two games this season, more than any other pass catcher. Although Jeudy had seven receptions in those two games, between Gabriel and Jeudy, both believe they are going to get on the same page consistently.

"I think Jerry (Jeudy is) hardest on himself and wants to play at a level for us as a team, but also, himself as well, but I don't think that's ever going to stop our approach," Gabriel said. "We believe in Jerry. Jerry believes in himself, and I think we're going to just continue to work at it. We've got it. It's one of those things you have to work your way through. I don't want to keep sounding mundane and saying the same thing, but it starts with me and being able to help that connection."

The process of building chemistry with Jeudy starts at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus with moments before, in and after practice, according to Gabriel. Moments like the pair throwing with one another in warmups or Jeudy getting extra yards at the top of routes help build the relationship between quarterback and receiver.

In addition to the work Jeudy is doing with Gabriel, he is putting time in to start Week 7 with a fresh mindset.

"(I release frustration) by staying consistent and preparing," Jeudy said. "Just doing more than I did the previous week, whether that's running more routes after practice, catching more balls on the jugs machine, or studying more. That's what you have to do."

Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees said on Oct. 9 Jeudy is at the top of his list for guys who care, and that they trust Jeudy to be someone who makes plays for the Browns. Head coach Kevin Stefanski echoed Rees' comments and said Jeudy is going to provide for the Browns in any way he can.

"Obviously, he's a leader – we put a lot on his plate. We ask him to do a lot," Stefanski said. "So, he just needs to do what he's capable of doing. I've seen it many, many times."

Gabriel and Jeudy can make big plays for the Browns in Week 7 at home against the Dolphins. Miami's defense has given up the third-most yards and the fourth-most points in the NFL. Against Miami, opposing quarterbacks are also moving the ball through the air, gaining 10.11 yards per completion.

In his first home start and third NFL start, Stefanski said he is looking for continued improvement from Gabriel. Stefanski doesn't need Gabriel to be perfect but wants him to steadily grow more confident in commanding the offense.

"Operationally, different than a road environment, but no different than any young player to just build on the things that you're doing well," Stefanski said. "Our job as coaches is to identify some of the things that we can help them with. But incremental improvements with our young players are what's most important."

Between Gabriel and Jeudy, there are plays both of them want back. However, Gabriel emphasized they are expected to deliver in crucial moments, and they need to do that every week.

"I think from play to play, there are a lot of things that you want back, and you take notes on, and you want to continue to emphasize," Gabriel said. "But I think the common theme is when you need it, you have to go get it. And that's kind of what we need to do."
