Mock Draft Roundup: Pre-Combine projections all over the map for Browns at 1, 4

Before we hit the road to Indianapolis for the 2018 NFL Combine, we're giving one last look to the latest mock drafts that give the lay of the land before arguably the biggest pre-draft event on the calendar.

Expect these to change in a significant way in the coming weeks. Whether or not that applies to the projections regarding the Browns at No. 1 and No. 4 remains to be seen.

  1. QB Josh Allen (Wyoming)
  1. DB Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama)

Of note: Kiper stood pat with Allen as his top overall selection in his second mock draft of the season. He believes Allen had a strong week at the Senior Bowl and compares him to Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

  1. QB Sam Darnold (USC)
  1. Fitzpatrick

Of note: Brugler thinks Darnold's intangibles and instincts separate him from the rest of the quarterbacks in a deep group.

  1. Darnold
  1. Fitzpatrick

Of note: It's unclear where he would play in Cleveland's system, but Fitzpatrick is viewed by most as the most talented defensive back in this year's draft and a player capable of mastering either the cornerback or safety position.

  1. Allen
  1. RB Saquon Barkley (Penn State)

Of note: Allen has been highly regarded for his big arm, and that's why Prisco believes he's the perfect fit for Cleveland, where the elements can play a major factor during the second half of the season.

  1. Darnold
  1. Fitzpatrick

Of note: Brinson believes Darnold has the "highest ceiling and floor combination" in this year's quarterback class and would benefit from sitting a year behind a veteran.

  1. Darnold
  1. Barkley

Of note: Breer considers Barkley to be the best overall player in this year's draft, but he plays a "non-premium" position.

  1. Darnold
  1. Fitzpatrick

Of note: The Browns struggled with generating takeaways in 2017, especially interceptions, and Davis believes a player such as Fitzpatrick would make an immediate impact toward improving that tally.

  1. Barkley
  1. Fitzpatrick

Of note: Tanier doesn't predict the Browns to take a quarterback at either spot because he sees the team addressing its need in free agency.

  1. Barkley
  1. QB Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma)

Of note: Even though the Browns would be taking Mayfield at No. 4, Shonka predicts he'd be the first quarterback off the board after Barkley, Fitzpatrick and NC State pass rusher Bradley Chubb.
