Throwback Thursday: Looking back on Browns-Falcons matchups

The Browns are mere hours away from hosting Atlanta in their preseason home opener Thursday night.

So for this week's Throwback Thursday, we're looking at Cleveland's impressive record when facing the Falcons before the two teams square off again at 8 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Since 1966, the Browns hold an 11-3 advantage against the Falcons, their most recent win coming in 2014 when Cleveland edged Atlanta, 26-24, at the Georgia Dome.

In that thriller, then-rookie running back Isaiah Crowell carried the ball 12 times for 88 yards and two touchdowns, including a 26-yard burst late in the third quarter.

Cleveland has won three of the last four most recent matchups against Atlanta and won six-straight from 1976 to 1990.

Here's every matchup between the teams since the turn of the century:

2002: Browns 26, Falcons 16 (@ Cleveland Browns Stadium)

2006: Browns 17, Falcons 13 (@ Georgia Dome)

2010: Falcons 20, Browns 10 (@ Cleveland Browns Stadium) 2014: Browns 26, Falcons 24 (@ Georgia Dome)
