Baker Mayfield named 2018 Maurice Bassett Award winner

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield can add another honor to his resume.

Mayfield was named the team's 2018 Maurice Bassett Award winner Wednesday, given to the Browns' most outstanding rookie in training camp as voted by the news media.

Mayfield, the first overall pick in the NFL Draft and former Heisman Trophy winner, showed why Cleveland believes he'll be its quarterback-of-the-future over the past month, displaying poise, patience and playmaking ability throughout the preseason. In four games, he completed 35-of-61 passes for 501 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Mayfield, who will back up veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor this fall, joins past winners in defensive end Myles Garrett (2017) and linebacker Christian Kirksey (2014).

The Browns host the Steelers on Sunday in the season opener.
