The Browns used their first of four fifth-round picks Saturday when they selected UCLA wide receiver Jordan Payton with the No. 154 pick.
"I can't wait to bring my experience and my hard work to the Cleveland Browns and get wins and get in the playoffs and get to the Super Bowl," Payton said.
Payton is the 10th player to be selected by the Browns in the 2016 NFL Draft. He joins Baylor wide receiver Corey Coleman (No. 15), Oklahoma State defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah (No. 32), Penn State defensive end Carl Nassib (No. 65), Auburn offensive tackle Shon Coleman (No. 76) and USC quarterback Cody Kessler (No. 93), Wisconsin linebacker Joe Schobert (No. 99), Auburn wide receiver Ricardo Louis (No. 114), TCU defensive back Derrick Kindred (No. 129) and Princeton tight end Seth DeValve (No. 138) as the newest Brown.
Payton, who amassed 2,701 yards and 14 touchdowns, leaves UCLA as the school's all-time leader for career receptions with 201 passes caught in four years.
"I think I play extremely hard," Payton said. "Whether there is a possession-receiver label on me or anything, I just like to get out there and play football. I am a football player. I am extremely grateful and extremely blessed. Me and my family have been waiting a long time for this, not just today but in my lifetime with how hard I have worked. I am excited. It is definitely the greatest day in my life, and I can't wait to get it going."
The 6-foot-1, 207-pound receiver the the Bruins with 67 catches for 957 yards in 2014 and 78 catches for 1,105 yards and five touchdowns last season.
"In the end, I landed in the best place," Payton said. "With (Head) Coach (Hue) Jackson as the head coach. It is going to be an unbelievable year for me, an unbelievable career for me with Cleveland. I am excited to take on this next step of my life. I can't wait to get out there."
Payton is the third wide receiver taken by the Browns in this year's draft, joining Coleman and Louis.
The No. 154 pick was acquired in a trade with the Raiders earlier in the day.
