2020 NFL Draft

Browns make most draft picks since 2000 with haul of 12

After one of the busiest drafts in recent franchise history, Browns general manager Ray Farmer carried a look of satisfaction Saturday evening as he assessed the 12 players added to the roster over the past three days.

"I think we did a good job of sticking to the plan," Farmer said. "We know who we want to be. We know where we want to go. We knew before you build the roof and put the walls up, you've got to build the foundation. And for us, that starts up front. We want to dominate the line of scrimmage. And we want to play Cleveland Brown football.

"We brought in guys that Play Like Browns. We brought guys in here that will compete, play relentless, chase the ball on defense, be aggressive on offense."

No team selected more players than the Browns, who added seven on the draft's final day. Cleveland came into the draft with 10 picks, but was able to add a couple through a series of trades. It's the most players landed in a single draft since 2000, when the team picked 13.

In sum, the Browns added seven defensive players -- two DL, two LBs, three DBs -- and five on offense -- RB, two TEs, WR, OL.

"I don't want to overcomplicate it: These were good football players that we felt were going to make outstanding Cleveland Browns that we wanted to bring in to compete," Browns coach Mike Pettine said. "Need didn't necessarily steer the pick. It was the grade of the player, how we felt about him, how they would blend with the intangible stuff, too. How's this guy going to fit when he comes in here?

"Sometimes you don't just look at the talent alone, you've got to look at the other part of it. Every one of these picks we reached a crossroads and decisions were made on guys that we felt Played Like Browns."
