DE Myles Garrett has made NFL history once again.
As Garrett beat the Patriots on the edge early in the first quarter, he zeroed in on QB Drake Maye to take him down for the sack. That sack set an NFL record for the most sacks by a player under the age of 30. Garrett surpassed Reggie White, who had 108 sacks, and sets the record with 108.5 sacks.
"Myles is a future Hall of Famer," head coach Kevin Stefanski said. "So there's other people, probably more accomplished than me, that can speak to what he looks like compared to one of the greatest in Reggie White. But what Myles does on a game-to-game basis, and I believe this – I don't think it gets enough notoriety, enough praise for what he's doing in the course of these games where he's being doubled and triple-teamed. And so, he's playing at a high level for us, he's done this for a bunch of years. And at his age, to be able to say where he stands among the greats is pretty impressive."
Over the course of his career, Garrett has set both franchise records and NFL records. In 2024, Garrett became the first player in NFL history to record at least 14 sacks in four consecutive seasons (2021-24), and is the only NFL player to record at least 10 sacks in each of the past seven seasons (2018-24). Garrett also was the first player since 1982 to have 100 career sacks prior to his 29th birthday, which he set in Week 17 against the Dolphins in 2024.
Garrett's 2025 season is off to a solid start. Heading into Week 8, Garret had five sacks. With the sack of Maye, he adds his six sack of the season, and also moves into fifth for the most sacks by a player in their first nine seasons. Garrett surpassed Derrick Thomas (107.5).
