2020 NFL Draft

Numbers to Know: The highs and lows to kicking off the 2nd round

For the first time in 16 years, Cleveland will be on the clock for hours during a portion of the NFL Draft.

After picking second in the first round, the Browns will have close to 21 hours to mull over their selection at No. 32, the first pick of the second round. The Browns will have similar lag time heading into Day 3, as they hold the first pick in the fourth round as well.

Our focus on this week's "Numbers to Know" is the trends and history of what's happened to the players and teams with the No. 1 pick in Round No. 2.

Take a look at the Cleveland Browns roster as of September 1, 2017.

3 - Times in the last nine years the team making the first pick of the second round traded into that spot. The most recent came last year, when the Giants traded the No. 40 pick, a fourth-rounder and a seventh-rounder with the Titans to take safety Landon Collins.

0 - Times a quarterback was selected with the first pick in the second round from 1970-2001.

2 - Times the Browns have held the first pick of the second round since their return in 1999. They used the picks on wide receivers Kevin Johnson (1999) and Dennis Northcutt (2000).

4 - Wide receivers selected with the first pick of the second round by teams other than the Browns since 1994. They are: Darnay Scott (1994), Alex Van Dyke (1996), Jabar Gaffney (2002) and Brian Quick (2012).

36 - Years since a running back was selected with the first pick of the second round. That was Joe Cribbs (Bills) in 1980.

2 - Former Browns in recent years who were in the first pick in the second round by different teams. They were: LB Karlos Dansby and OL Eric Steinbach.

2006 - The last time the first pick of the second round was named a rookie of the year. That was LB DeMeco Ryans.
