Wadsworth Walks Away With the Win

Wadsworth met with Stow-Munroe Falls in our week 5 of High School Game of the Week. Both teams came in with a 4-0 record, but Wadworth left victorious.

In the first opening minutes, Junior Running Back, Brock Snowball of Wadsworth ran in a touchdown. Stow quickly responded with their own touchdown from Senior Running Back, Terrian Wray. The game remained tied 7-7 until Snowball ran in another touchdown to take the lead.

In the second quarter, Stow showed off their impressive hands and Senior Quarterback Cory Rice gained another touchdown to tie the score.

Wadsworth did not let Stow get too comfortable. Senior Wide Receiver, Christian Szalay and Senior Quarterback, Joey Baughman lit up the scoreboard with two more touchdowns, putting the Grizzlies at 28-14 right before the half.

At halftime, both Stow and Wadsworth showed off their musical talents. Both schools had over 200 members in their marching band! Stow went first in the halftime show and displayed their love of the oldies with a "Journey" tribute. Wadsworth followed with a selection of popular hits such as "Vida la Vida" and the Spiderman theme song.

After the half, Baughman ran in another touchdown with a Quarterback keeper move. The Grizzlies were on their way to a 38-14 score until Stow blocked the field goal attempt and left the game at 35-14.

Feeling pumped after the block, the Stow Bulldogs sent Wray back to the end zone. Though they were closing in, Baughman quickly ran in another touchdown to send the Grizzlies up 41-21.

Stow remained strong and was able to score one final touchdown before the last buzzer. It wasn't until Grizzlies Junior Defensive Back Brett Randolph intercepted Stow's final touchdown attempt to end the game.

The team celebrated their win by storming the field and singing the alma matter with their student section.
Head Coach Justin Todd and game MVP, Joey Baughman will be honored at the Browns home game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, October 1st.

Of course no Friday Night Light game is complete without a feel good moment. Steve Rench, father of a Wadsworth Junior, is a proud volunteer of the 50/50 Raffle. Every home Friday football game, Rench is out in the crowd collecting money for the 50/50 charity. This is his third year volunteering with the Booster club and he plans to continue long after his last child has graduated.

Congratulations to Wadsworth for becoming the 2017 Week 5 High School Game of the Week winner!
