Suited in their Alpha Dawg uniforms, the Browns showcased an Alpha Dawg mentality against the Dolphins. Following RB Quinshon Judkins' 46-yard touchdown run with 11:19 left in the second quarter to take a 10-3 lead, the Browns didn't trail for the remainder of the game.
Cleveland picked up its second win of the season, beating Miami 31-6 on Sunday at Huntington Bank Field.
With the rain falling throughout the game, the Browns relied on the running game, primarily utilizing Judkins. The Browns' second-round pick finished the game with 84 rushing yards and three touchdowns, running the ball 25 times. QB Dillon Gabriel passed the pass efficiently when called upon, completing 13 passes for 116 yards.
CB Tyson Campbell recorded his first interception as a member of the Browns, a 34-yard pick-6. Safeties Rayshawn Jenkins and Ronnie Hickman both had interceptions as Cleveland forced Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa to throw three interceptions. DE Myles Garrett, S Grant Delpit and LB Jerome Baker all recorded sacks as the Browns held the Dolphins to their lowest scoring game of the season.
Key Moments
Judkins uses the elements to score a touchdown
On first-and-10 from the Dolphins' side of the field, Judkins blasted through a hole in the middle of the hashes and took off for 46 yards, scoring a touchdown and giving the Browns a 10-3 lead with 11:19 to play in the second quarter.
Multiple Dolphins defenders tried to grab a hold of Judkins, but amid the rain, they couldn't get a firm grasp of his jersey. Once he moved past the first level, just Dolphins S Minkah Fitzpatrick was between him and a touchdown. Fitzpatrick dove to wrap up Judkins' legs but the Browns running back slipped out of the tackle attempt and sped away to the end zone.
The run was the longest of Judkins' career. He finished the first half with 75 rushing yards on 18 attempts. Judkins added a second and third touchdown in the game, both times out of the wildcat formation.
Right place, right time
Campbell introduced himself to the Dawg Pound on the first play of the second half, taking a tipped pass 34 yards for a touchdown.
Tagovailoa intended to throw a screen pass out to the left to RB De'Von Achane but aimed the pass too high. The pass allowed Jenkins to tackle Achane in the air as he tried to make the catch. The contact with the Dolphins running back allowed Campbell to come in from behind and snatch the ball out of the air.
Campbell toed the sideline as he followed through with the catch, staying in-bounds and running the remaining 30 yards for a score. The pick-6 was Campbell's first of his career and extended the Browns' lead to 24-6.
Browns fend off Dolphins comeback with takeaways
The Dolphins needed to score points to start cutting away at the 24-6 deficit they faced with 10:23 left in the third quarter. However, for three consecutive possessions, they gave the ball back to the Browns without making a dent in the score.
On Miami's final possession of the third quarter, the Browns defense forced a turnover on downs. The Dolphins drove down the field with a long-winding drive. However, eight plays in, the Browns defense dug in and held the Dolphins to two yards on three plays. Miami elected to go for it on fourth down but fell a yard short, ending a 12-play, 64-yard drive that took 7:10 off the clock.
The Dolphins next two possessions ended a lot faster, taking a combined five plays. On the first drive on third-and-12, Tagovailoa threw an interception to Jenkins. Then, on the second play of Miami's next drive, Tagovailoa threw his third interception of the game to Hickman.
