The Browns dropped their first game of the regular season, 34-10, to the Jaguars at EverBank Stadium.
In the first half, Cleveland was unable to score and could not sustain drives. On defense, the Browns struggled to defend QB Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars' passing attack. While they scored a late touchdown to pair with third quarter field goal, the Browns could not mount a comeback after falling behind 31-0 early in the second half.
Here are 10 key numbers from the Browns' first regular season game:
1 – DT Mason Graham tallied the Browns' one sack during the game. Late in the first half, Graham forced his way past the Jaguars' offensive line and dove at the legs of QB Trevor Lawrence, bringing him to the ground for a loss of 11 yards. Graham also recorded two tackles for loss and a quarterback hit during the game to add to his performance.
2 – The Browns turned the ball over two times against the Jaguars. On the first drive of the game, QB Deshaun Watson threw an interception on a pass intended for WR Jerry Jeudy. WR KC Concepcion Jr. recorded the second turnover, fumbling in Browns' territory on the second play of their fourth drive.
4 – As a team, the Browns posted four tackles for loss. On top of Graham's two, DE Jared Verseand LB Carson Schwesinger each tallied one.
5 – Cleveland allowed five sacks for a loss of 20 yards. DE Josh Hines-Allen and DE Travon Walker, Jacksonville's starting edge rusher duo, combined for three of the five sacks.
11 – The Browns were called for 11 penalties that cost them 75 yards in the loss. On their final drive in the second half, while approaching field goal range, three consecutive penalties took away a potential scoring opportunity.
14 – Cleveland converted 14 first downs throughout the game. After recording five in the first half, the Browns tallied nine in the second half. Five of the first downs came on the ground while nine came on pass plays.
46 – WR Denzel Boston scored the Browns' first touchdown of the regular season and the first of his NFL career on a 46-yard reception in the end zone late in the fourth quarter. Boston was the Browns' leading receiver, finishing with two receptions for 59 yards and one touchdown.
74 – In the third quarter, RB Raheim Sanders returned a kickoff 74 yards, weaving around multiple Jaguars' defenders to set up the Browns' offense with excellent starting field position. The 74-yard kickoff return marked the longest for the Browns since 2013 when Travis Benjamin returned a kickoff 86 yards against the Packers. While filling in for RB Dylan Sampson, who exited the game with a knee injury, Sanders had three kickoff returns for 130 yards — an average of 43.3 yards per return.
205 – Watson threw for 205 yards, completing 16 of 22 passing attempts with one touchdown and one interception.
360 – The Browns' defense allowed 360 net yards to the Jaguars' offense. Lawrence threw for 245 yards and four touchdowns while Jacksonville rushed for 126 yards on 3.9 yards per carry.
