The Browns will have all four quarterbacks back out at practice on Day 8 of training camp, as QB Kenny Pickett is set to return.
Pickett missed the previous three days of practice due to a hamstring injury he endured on July 26. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Pickett will practice in a limited capacity on Friday and will not participate in team drills.
"Obviously disappointed that he's not full go, but he's very much involved in everything we're doing," Stefanski said. "He's a player that has had a good amount of NFL game exposure. He's had a lot of reps going back through the spring and what we've gotten accomplished so far through training camp. You don't want anybody to be missing action due to any injury, but he has done a nice job of staying very much engaged."
Stefanski said Pickett felt the hamstring injury at the end of practice on July 26, and he had an MRI to evaluate the injury. He used the early portion of the week to rehab from the injury to be able to return on Friday.
In the first block of practices, which consisted of the first four practices of training camp, Pickett took a number of reps first among the quarterbacks in team drills.
"I thought Kenny (Pickett) had a strong block there," Stefanski said. "He did use his mobility a couple times there and is a fast player. He can really run. [...] But I thought he had a good four days."
The quarterback competition continues as the Browns move through the second block of practices ahead of their trip to Charlotte for joint practices. They will have two more practices at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus before they travel to Charlotte and participate in a joint practice with the Panthers on Aug. 6. Then, the Browns will then play their first preseason game against the Panthers on Aug. 8.
