Brownson has spent the last five years as a member of the Browns coaching staff. She first joined the Browns in 2020 as the chief of staff before adding assistant wide receivers coaching duties to her responsibilities in 2022. Then she moved into a full time role as assistant wide receivers coach in 2023.
When she joined the Browns staff in 2020, Brownson made NFL history in her first season. She became the first woman to coach an NFL position group in a game when she served as the team's acting tight ends coach in Week 12 win against the Jaguars.
"Callie has been a valuable member of our coaching staff for the last five seasons, and it's been rewarding to see her growth," head coach Kevin Stefanski said. "We appreciate her many contributions to our team and look forward to seeing her continue to serve and grow our sport at USA Football."
Brownson has broken barriers throughout her coaching career. In 2018, Brownson became the first woman to coach full-time in Division I college football after she accepted a position as an offensive quality control coach for Dartmouth College under head coach Buddy Teevens.
She first started in the NFL in 2017 when she served as s college/professional personnel scouting intern for the Jets. Then in 2019, she interned with the Bills before accepting a full-time position on Sean McDermott's staff.
She also made an impact on the game of football in her playing career. Brownson played eight seasons as a safety, running back and slot receiver for the D.C. Divas of the Women's Football Alliance from 2010-17, serving as a five-time captain and named a four-time All-American. The Divas won two championships during Brownson's career.
Brownson is also a two-time goal medalist as a player with Team USA Women's Football, first at the International Federation of American Football's (IFAF) Women's World Championships in Vantaa, Finland in 2013 and Vancouver, Canada in 2017 as a member of the Women's U.S. Tackle National Team. She served as the head coach of the 2022 Women's U.S. Tackle National Team that won the program's fourth consecutive world championship.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity to join USA Football and help the U.S. National Teams continue their international success in flag and tackle football through the 2028 Olympics and beyond," Brownson said. "This is a historic time for football's global growth with the Olympics on the horizon. I'm thrilled to be part of what USA Football is building as we look to uphold our standard against improving competition across the world."
