5 things to know about Todd Monken

Throughout the Browns' search for a new head coach, associate editor and staff writer Kelsey Russo will break down the candidates as they go through the interview process with the team. Next, let's look at Todd Monken, current Ravens offensive coordinator.

1) Monken brings experience in the AFC North, spending the last three seasons as the Ravens offensive coordinator. With QB Lamar Jackson at the helm of the offense, Monken coached a unit that ranked fourth in scoring and sixth in total yards in 2023. Then in 2024, the Ravens led the NFL in total offense with 424.9 yards per game, rushing offense with 187.6 yards per game, red zone touchdown efficiency at 74.2 percent and yards per play at 6.8. Baltimore also became the first team in NFL history with 4,000 yards through the air (4,035) and 3,000 yards on the ground (3,189) in a single season.

The Ravens then finished the 2025 regular season with the second-best average rushing yards per game at 156.6 yards, as well as 11th in the league averaging 24.9 points per game.

2) Monken's lone head-coaching experience over his coaching career came in a three-season stint at Southern Miss from 2013-15. In 2013, Monken took over a Southern Miss program that had finished 0-12 the previous season. By the end of his third campaign in 2015, the Golden Eagles had posted a 9-5 record, won the Conference USA West division and earned an appearance in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

3) During his tenure as offensive coordinator at Georgia from 2020-22, he helped produce back-to-back national championship seasons in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, Georgia's offense ranked ninth in points per game at 38.6, fourth in yards per play at 7.0 and seventh in total first downs at 341, on its way to the first national championship since 1980. Then in 2022 winning its second-consecutive national championship, Georgia led the nation in total net yards at 7,517 and total points at 616. His stint at Georgia was his final collegiate stop, as he spent 26 of his 37 seasons coaching in college.

4) Monken has previous ties to the Browns, as he spent one season in Cleveland as offensive coordinator in 2019. While in Cleveland, Monken led a Browns' offense that featured RB Nick Chubb, who produced the league's second-most rushing yards at 1,494 and recorded eight touchdowns. QB Baker Mayfield also threw a single-season career-high 3,827 passing yards, adding 22 touchdowns, while and WR Odell Beckham Jr. recorded a 1,000-yard season.

5) Monken, a native of Wheaton, Illinois, is a member of the Knox College Hall of Fame. Monken played both football and baseball at Knox, and he earned Division III All-American honors in 1988 for his junior season. During that season, Monken ranked first in pass attempts, completions and completion percentage.
