Attendance and live tackling were both highlighted on Day 7 of camp

july 30th

The Browns highlighted Stay in the Game! Attendance Network on Wednesday's practice, inviting students and families to attend training camp.

Launched in 2019 by the Cleveland Browns Foundation, Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and Proving Ground, now managed by Battelle, the Network has worked with education experts for the past five years with the goal of dramatically improving school attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism.

To further their initiative, the Network distributed 150 training camp tickets to students and their families from the surrounding districts of Euclid, Lorain, Maple Heights, Medina, Nordonia and Oberlin. From the sidelines, the guests watched their favorite Browns players up close as Day 7 brought increased physicality with the pads back on for the second time.

The first portion of practice focused on keeping technique under pressure during individual drills. Coaches introduced distractions, like obscuring players vision or using matted sticks to simulate contact, to test their focus. Fans, players and coaches saw the offense jump, whoop and smack WR Gage Larvadain on the back during the second half of practice as he caught a pass and found his way into the end zone to score.

The high-spirited practice came from the Browns taking another step in amping up the physical play with live tackling for the first time in training camp. RB Jerome Ford expressed his excitement for running live tackling as players began to be more physical during scrimmages.

"First time (tackling) since I've been here. As you can see, the energy was high, we loved it. Hopefully we get to do it again," Ford said.

Rookie LB Carson Schwesinger reiterated Ford's excitement, articulating how much he enjoys tackling.

"I love it," Schwesinger said. "You talk to the defense, we're all excited about any live period we get, because that's what we love to do, is get guys on the ground."

The Browns will have a day off from practice on Thursday before they finish out this block of practices at home.
