Gage Larvadain thrills the offense with a touchdown on Day 7 | Training Camp Observations

The Browns went live, ramping up the physicality of Wednesday’s practice

7.30.25 Larvadain Observations

Throughout the first six days of training camp, the offense and defense have battled against each other, and Day 7 was no different.

The wide receivers and defensive backs went against each other in a 1-on-1 drill for the third time in training camp on Day 7. During team periods, 11 offensive players scrimmaged 11 defensive players to continue their installation on both sides of the ball.

"We're in the dog days of camp right now," RB Jerome Ford said. "And I think everybody is willing to do what it takes to get better."

Here are the top observations from Day 7 of training camp:

Get past your man

QB Dillon Gabriel and QB Joe Flacco both had two sets of reps in the 1-on-1 drill, while QB Shedeur Sanders only had one before the air horn sounded for the next period.

Gabriel fired the ball to WR DeAndre Carter and WR Gage Larvadain in his first set. The latter was able to haul the pass in despite being draped by a defensive back. In his second set, WR Kaden Davis got his man's hands off him and broke free for an easy reception.

During Flacco's sets, he connected with WR Jerry Jeudy across the middle and then threaded the needle to hit WR Jamari Thrash's hands through coverage.

Sanders had a completion to WR Diontae Johnson and almost had a second completion on his next pass if not for it being deflected by the defender unintentionally.

Despite the success of the quarterbacks and pass catchers in the drill, the defense edged them out, partly thanks to a strong first set of reps from the defensive backs. As a result, the offense and the respective coaches had to do pushups.

In the set, CB Greg Newsome II tipped the ball away from his opponent. CB Denzel Ward and CB Chigozie Anusiem didn't give their men any chance to catch the ball, keeping the receivers' hands out of the air.

Playing to the ground

On the second day of pads for the Browns, head coach Kevin Stefanski put his team to the test of tackling. After just having them wrap each other up before blowing the whistle on the first day of pads, he's getting them to ramp up to the point of playing full-force football.

"I think it's good for especially for the skill guys. For us, it doesn't really change too much when we have pads on," T Jack Conklin said. "It's pretty much full go for us, but it's nice to get those reps for the skill guys, running backs, and get us moving, running down the field, trying to keep our guys up and moving piles."

Big moments of the day

Seventh-year veteran and free agent acquisition S Nik Needham nearly had his first interception of camp during 11-on-11 if not for the ball going off his fingers. Ward made two good plays on the ball in 11-on-11 on Day 7. On the first, he was able to deflect a pass that was on its way to an open Johnson. On the second play, he swatted a ball out of the air that was intended for TE Harold Fannin Jr.

Fannin showcased his skills, turning a checkdown from Gabriel into a play that moved the offense to the seven-yard line. In the same drill for Gabriel, he passed it to Larvadain, who shook off the tackle and ran into the end zone for a touchdown, the first of the drill for the offense.

The entire offense on the field and the pass catchers on the sidelines made their way to the end zone to tap Larvadain on the helmet, screaming 'Let's go' following the play.

Gabriel showed off his arm on a deep pass to Davis that got the offense all the way down inside the 10-yard line. Davis again had a good play on a rollout to the right by Flacco, sliding on the grass to make the catch.

Sanders made good judgment plays during 11-on-11, seeing the gap created by the offensive line on a pass play, taking it for free yards while the receivers were locked up. A few plays later, he had a long pass to WR Kisean Johnson in a play that wound up at the 11-yard line.
