Fans packed CrossCountry Mortgage Campus for the Browns' final open practice on Wednesday before their first preseason game on Aug. 15 against the Bears.

During the final portion of practice, both the first and second team offenses reached field goal range in two-minute drills. The defense also made impressive plays during the 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods.

Here are three main observations from Day 13 of training camp.

Quarterback competition continues on Day 13

QB Shedeur Sanders took all the first team reps on Wednesday. QB Deshaun Watson took most of the second team reps while QB Dillon Gabriel rotated in.

Sanders fired a pass on the run to TE Blake Whiteheart in the end zone for a touchdown during an 11-on-11 period in the red zone. During another 11-on-11 period, Sanders delivered a pass to WR Isaiah Bond across the middle of the field in space.

During the first 11-on-11 period, Watson connected with WR Gage Larvadain across the middle of the field for a solid gain. Watson also completed a pass to WR Malachi Corley near the left sideline in the first period of 7-on-7.

Gabriel found TE Carsen Ryan on a play-action pass to the left side of the field during 11-on-11. During the second period of 7-on-7, Gabriel connected with WR Tylan Wallace near the left sideline.

Two-minute drill success

During the final 11-on-11 period of practice, both the first and second team offenses worked the ball into field goal range with under a minute remaining.

With the first team, Sanders started the drive with a completion to TE Harold Fannin Jr. by the right sideline. Sanders then found WR Denzel Boston across the middle of the field for another completion. On the next play, Sanders found a diving Bond down the left sideline to reach field goal range. Sanders then completed another pass to Fannin.

Watson worked with the second team and completed passes to Whiteheart and RB Raheim Sanders to begin the drive. To get close to field goal range, Watson lofted a pass near the left sideline to WR Luke Floriea for a big gain. On the next play, Watson connected with Corley near the left sideline to get out of bounds.

Both drives ended with simulated field goal attempts with enough time remaining.

Defensive observations

CB Tre Avery worked with the first team on Wednesday and made a couple of nice plays. During the first 11-on-11 period, Avery played tight coverage on a deep incompletion to WR Jerry Jeudy. Avery also played close coverage again during the first 7-on-7 period to force an incompletion from Shedeur Sanders on a throw intended for Wallace. In the run game, Avery filled the gap to stop RB Dylan Sampson during an 11-on-11 period in the red zone.

DE Alex Wright also made a good play in the ground game to stop RB Quinshon Judkins on a run during an 11-on-11 period. In the first 11-on-11 session, DE Logan Fano stuffed a pitch to Raheim Sanders on the right side.

Watson tried to connect with Larvadain in the end zone during an 11-on-11 period, but S Christopher Edmonds broke up the pass with LB Edefuan Ulofoshio also in coverage.

CB Myles Harden blitzed off the edge for a likely sack during an 11-on-11 period, forcing an incompletion from Shedeur Sanders.
