Cleveland forces New York’s offense to five three-and-outs in 27-20 loss

The Jets beat the Browns 27-20, scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter to pull away late in the game from Cleveland.

The Browns and New York were tied at 17 at halftime but it took until the 2:59 mark in the fourth quarter for Cleveland to score with a field goal. New York had already built a 27-17 lead by that point and used its final offensive possession following the Browns' field goal to drain the clock.

Here are 10 key numbers from the Browns' Week 10 loss against the Jets.

0 – Jets WR Garrett Wilson recorded zero catches against the Browns. Garrett made his return to the football field after a knee injury he suffered in Week 6 forced him to miss two games. Week 10 was the first time Garrett was held without a catch thus far in his NFL career, according to Pro Football Reference.

2 – Cleveland allowed the Jets to score two special teams touchdowns. After QB Dillon Gabriel and TE David Njoku connected to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, the Jets responded quickly. RB Kene Nwangwu took the ensuing kickoff 99 yards down the field to tie the game at seven. The Browns went three-and-out following New York's kickoff return touchdown and punted back to the Jets. WR Isaiah Williams then returned the punt 74 yards for a touchdown and gave New York a 14-7 lead.

5 – The Browns' defense forced the Jets into five three-and-outs. New York's first two offensive possessions of the game were three-and-outs as Cleveland got off to a hot start. Three consecutive Jets possessions were three-and-outs spanning from 45 seconds left in the second quarter to 6:24 left in the third quarter.

6 – New York sacked Gabriel six times in the game. Edge Will McDonald IV led the Jets in sacks with a career-high four sacks.

9 – LB Carson Schwesinger led the Browns in tackles with nine. He had two tackles for loss in the game, including one in the fourth quarter where he and LB Devin Bush tackled Jets RB Breece Hall in the backfield to force fourth down. Schwesinger now has 69 tackles on the season, also leading Cleveland. He added half a sack in the game bringing his season total to 1.5 sacks.

10 – The Browns had 10 penalties in the game, including two in situations where Cleveland had the chance to get the ball back. Bush was called for defensive holding with 1:56 left in the game on third-and-16. The penalty gave the Jets an automatic first down, extending their possession. Cleveland stopped New York again on three consecutive plays bringing up fourth down. DE Cameron Thomas was drawn offsides by the Jets snap count and was called for a neutral zone infraction, allowing them to kneel out the game.

23 – Cleveland tied its season-high with 23 first downs. The Browns had six first downs on their second offensive drive of the game, where they took nine plays to go 95 yards and score a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. Cleveland had five first downs on its final drive, setting up a field goal to bring the score to 27-20.

54 – The Browns held QB Justin Fields to 54 passing yards on 11 pass attempts, six of which he completed. Fields passed the 50-yard mark in the game when Hall caught a screen pass from Fields for a 42-yard touchdown. The 54-yard performance was Fields' fourth game this season with double-digit passing yards.

78 – WR Jerry Jeudy recorded a season-high in receiving yards with 78. He added a season-high in receptions, catching six passes. Jeudy also scored his first touchdown of the season on a 22-yard catch in the second quarter. Going into the game, head coach Kevin Stefanski and Gabriel emphasized the need to get the ball to Jeudy more.

158 – Cleveland set a season-high in rushing yards with 158, finding success on the ground. RB Quinshon Judkins led the Browns with 75 rushing yards while Gabriel ran for 54 yards on five carries. WR Malachi Corley also contributed to the run game with two carries of 16 yards each.
