Storylines to Watch

  • How QB Shedeur Sanders will look in his first start — While QB Dillon Gabriel remains in concussion protocol, QB Shedeur Sanders will make his first start for the Browns against the Raiders. Sanders played the second half in Week 11 against the Ravens after Gabriel was experiencing symptoms. Sanders finished the game for Cleveland, completing 4 of 16 passing attempts and throwing one interception. He was officially announced as the starter on Wednesday, and will have the full week of reps with the first team heading into Week 12. Sanders last played during the preseason, in which he started the first preseason game against the Panthers and saw playing time during the final preseason game against the Rams.
  • How the Browns limit DE Maxx Crosby — The Browns will face another elite pass rusher in Week 12 when they face DE Maxx Crosby. This season, Crosby has recorded 42 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 12 quarterback hits and six sacks in 10 games. He also has one interception, six passes defensed and two forced fumbles. Crosby can apply ample pressure to opposing quarterbacks, either forcing them into difficult throwing situations or bringing them down for a loss of yardage. The Browns will have to block well against Crosby to keep him from reaching Sanders in the pocket.
  • How the Browns defend against the Raiders' pass game — The Browns have an opportunity to shut down the pass game of the Raiders, as Cleveland allows an average of 167 passing yards per game — the fewest passing yards allowed per game in the league. On the flip side, the Raiders are averaging 187.6 passing yards per game — ranked 25th in the league. However, they have multiple threats in the pass game for QB Geno Smith that the Browns must account for with WR Tre Tucker and TE Brock Bowers. Tucker leads their receiving corps with 502 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 38 receptions, while Bowers has the most receptions for the Raiders with 39, totaling 455 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Shutting down the pass game will require all three levels of the defense, not only to apply pressure to Smith from the defensive line, but also from the secondary in covering their pass catchers.
