Highlights for May 1

In conjunction with the NFL Draft, the Browns First and Ten initiative decided to host a mock draft of their own. By drafting fans to be a part of the movement First and Ten went out to recruit some of the best volunteers in Cleveland who impact lives and make a difference on a day to day basis. By pledging to #give10 nurses, doctors and other University Hospital staff clinched a spot on the team and are on course to help their communities. We were able to capture some stories from the new draft picks here:

Name:Darrell Law

Hometown:Cleveland, OH

What they do to give back:

Darrell who has worked at the hospital for six years is a volunteer youth football coach for the Shaker Fire team. Darrell volunteers his time to the Cleveland Heights baseball club during weeknights and weekends. He believes in the power of youth sports and the lessons it teaches like trustworthiness and good character. Darrell gives back because someone did it for him. He is excited to #give10 more and make a difference in the life of the kids he coaches every day. Thanks Darrell, Good luck this season!

Name:Karen Nelson

Hometown:Shaker Heights, OH

What they do to give back:

Karen is involved in an outreach program at a local church, when she isn't working or at school. They cater to homeless people who have no place to go. They provide them with clean linens, food and shelter. Both children and adults benefit from these programs and they reach so many in need. The unique thing about this outreach program is that the volunteers are active during the day and night. They stay where those being served are staying and eat what they are eating. Karen wants to #give10 to help others, which makes her appreciate life even more. She says, "I'm fortunate enough to help others who are currently in a situation that anyone can find themselves in. Thanks Karen for dedicating your free time to #give10 and help your community!

Name:Rosiebran

Hometown:Cleveland, OH

What they do to give back:

Rosiebran who works at the hospital began giving back to improve her health. She wanted to get active and become a better person. A staff member encouraged Rosiebran to get involved and get healthy by joining a community walk. She completed her first walk with the Fox8 Foxtrot that benefitted American veterans. Since then she loves to walk and has pledged to #give10 by completing five charity walks before September. Rosiebran is completing the Rock, Roll and Walk run at Burke Lake this week which supports child diversity and she hopes to get involved in sickle cell anemia cure walks soon. Rosiebran gives back because she believes everyone needs a little help. That's awesome Rosie, thanks for giving your time and effort to these causes. Walk on!

Name:Antoinette Buckner

Hometown:Cleveland, OH

What they do to give back:

Antoinette participates in a program called "Produce to the People" that takes place once a month. One Saturday out of the month fruits, vegetables, bread and yogurt are given out to low-income families in the community. They feed nearly 300 people in a month through their efforts. Antoinette says that families in her community look forward to the event and she really feels as though she's making a difference. "Helping my community is something that I've always wanted to do, because I've been there." Thanks Antoinette, continue to #give10 and help your community.

Name:Bernestine Nowden-Perry

Hometown:Cleveland, OH

What they do to give back:

Bernestine volunteers by helping others in her own neighborhood. She assists the elderly with her time by cleaning their yards. She says it's really awesome that she can help those that she knows. Because some of the people in her neighborhood are shut-in and can't get out often, she takes it upon herself to cut the weeds and beautify their lawns. What a creative way to #give10 Bernestine! Keep up the good work, and don't forget to share your story and photos with #give10.
