Tyson Campbell showcases speed and skillset in 2nd game with Browns | Team Coverage

Campbell recorded key pick-six, two passes defensed and two tackles against the Dolphins

As CB Tyson Campbell watched Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa turn and look towards the 30-yard line where RB De'Von Achane was in space, he took off running.

As he narrowed the gap between him and Achane, with S Rayshawn Jenkins also closing in on Achane for the hit, the ball popped out of Achane's hands and fell into Campbell's arms. Campbell then sprinted down the sideline, staying in bounds and into the end zone for a 34-yard pick-six.

After landing in Cleveland just 11 days ago following the trade with the Jaguars, Campbell experienced his "welcome to Cleveland" moment at Huntington Bank Field, as the Dawg Pound erupted in cheers and Campbell celebrated with a dance paying homage to his roots in South Florida.

"It was awesome," head coach Kevin Stefanski said of Campbell's pick-six. "Fun to see him make a play and tightrope down the sideline and he made a play a couple plays down the field too. This is week two with him, normal week is only going to continue to get better."

The pick-six gave the Browns a 24-6 lead seconds into the third quarter and set the Browns up to beat the Dolphins 31-6. It was also the second of four takeaways in the game for the Browns.

"It was great, running to the ball and good things happen when you run to the ball," Campbell said. "So, I was breaking too, and I saw the ball, and I made sure I caught it and made sure I stayed in bounds. And the rest was easy."

The pick-six marked Campbell's first career touchdown off an interception, as well as the first interception returned for a touchdown for the Browns since S Ronnie Hickman against the Jets on Dec. 28, 2023.

Campbell added to his pick-six with two passes defensed and two key tackles against the Dolphins. Early in the first quarter as Achane broke through the Browns' defense and ran down the field, Campell took off. He caught up to Achane and pushed him out of bounds for the tackle, ending Achane's 46-yard gain.

As a high school state champion in Florida for the 100 meters and 200 meters in track and field, Campbell knew he could catch Achane. So, he put that speed to the test to try and make a play.

"The play is not over until it is over," Campbell said. "That is definitely my mindset. The play is not over until it is over so I feel like I can still make a play, that's what I try to do, and use my track speed."

Jenkins knew Campbell had that mentality and those attributes to his game, as they spent three seasons as teammates in Jacksonville from 2021-23. Campbell was drafted by the Jaguars as the 33^rd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, while Jenkins signed with Jacksonville during free agency that same year.

"I'm extremely happy," Jenkins said. "We came in together there, and man, once he settles in, everybody will really see the true value of his game. He's a really good player, good person. I'm just happy to see things just playing out how it did over there."

Campbell's last 11 days have been a journey of their own. From processing the wave of emotions with the news of the trade, to landing in Cleveland and practicing for the first time less than 24 hours after the news, Campbell has worked to adjust to his new team. He dove in to learning the playbook, watched as much film of the Browns' defense as he could and met with cornerbacks coach Brandon Lynch to learn as quickly as possible. He practiced twice with his new teammates before taking the field in Week 6 against the Steelers and seeing game action.

But heading into Week 7 was a different story. He experienced what a normal preparation week with the Browns entailed with meetings, walkthroughs and practices. He continued to study the playbook and learn from CB Denzel Ward. That dedicated work paid off in his second game in Cleveland.

His new teammates quickly took notice of the new addition to the secondary. S Grant Delpit believes Campbell now has his feet underneath him with two games under his belt and a full week of practice. The communication among the defense has also improved in his short time in Cleveland as he grows accustomed to the defensive scheme.

And when DE Myles Garrett saw Campbell run down the sideline and into the end zone, he raised his arms in celebration.

"I told him, that's a hell of a way to introduce yourself to the team," Garrett said. "You don't let one game, one play define you. And so, bouncing back like that, getting a huge play for us, that really cut the game open. And I think he's going to continue to play at a very high level, and that's a hell of a confidence booster."
