In the week six High School Game of the Week presented by Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) matchup Kirtland Hornets will host the Cuyahoga Heights Redskins. Cuyahoga Heights enters this week with an impressive 4-1 record while the Hornets of Kirtland boast an undefeated 5-0 record on the season. This conference matchup is crucial for both teams as they are 2-0 in conference play this season

The Redskins of Cuyahoga Heights have had an impressive season so far. Their only loss this season came at Brookfield High School (1-4) on September 7th, 46-17. Junior quarterback Sam Shafer leads Cuyahoga Heights into hostile territory this week. Shafer led the team to a 42-26 win last week over Berkshire (1-4). Shafer completed nine passes, five of which were touchdown passes. Now the Redskins will travel to Kirtland to take on the Hornets that have looked great all season.

The Hornets know there is a lot on the line for them this game. A win this week will move them to a 6-0 record on the season and a 3-0 record in conference play. This would get them one-step closer to going back to the playoffs. A big reason for Kirtland’s success has been their defense. Kirtland’s defense has only allowed 13 points through their first five games this season. Now that defense will be tested by Cuyahoga Heights’ potent offense.

In 2017, Kirtland defeated Cuyahoga Heights 42-34 as the Hornets went on to win the conference championship.

This year, the Redskins and Hornets are both 2-0 against common opponents – currently tied atop the conference.

Good luck to both teams and stay tuned for a post-game report.
