Storylines to Watch
- Who plays at quarterback for the Browns — The main storyline for the Browns through training camp continues into the preseason, as the quarterback competition in Cleveland carries on. With QB Kenny Pickett returning from a hamstring injury and QB Dillon Gabriel limited in Monday's practice with hamstring tightness, there are questions surrounding who will take the field in the first preseason game against the Panthers. The Browns will use the first preseason game as part of their evaluation of the quarterback room — and the eventual decision of who will be named the starter for Week 1 of the regular season.
- How the rookies play in first NFL game — The Browns will have a number of new faces take the field for the first time against the Panthers, particularly their rookie class in DT Mason Graham, TE Harold Fannin Jr., RB Dylan Sampson, LB Carson Schwesinger, QB Shedeur Sanders and Gabriel. Throughout training camp, the rookies have each taken meaningful reps in practice as they learn the scheme and prepare for the season. Their first preseason game will be the next step in their adjustment to the NFL as they face an opposing team and use the live game reps to help carve out their roles.
- Which Browns starters will play in first preseason game — The Browns are holding one joint practice with the Panthers ahead of their Week 1 preseason matchup, which will provide projected starters reps against an opposing team on both sides of the ball. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Monday that while they will hold out some of their players, some of their projected starters will also play in the first preseason game.
