Storylines to Watch
- How the Browns' defense handles speed of Dolphins' offense — The Browns' defense has another tough matchup this week against the Dolphins, an offense that utilizes speed, shifts and motions in their scheme. With the threat of DE Myles Garrett and his pass rushing ability, opposing quarterbacks are getting rid of the ball quickly to combat his presence. QB Tua Tagovailoa is another quarterback who likes to throw the ball quickly and relies on his accuracy when he does release the ball. This season, Tagovailoa has completed 127 of 182 passing attempts for 1,213 yards and 11 touchdowns. That speed also comes in the run game with RB De'Von Achane, who has rushed for 390 yards on 76 carries and three touchdowns this season. With his ability to line up in different spots and use him in the run and pass game, the Browns will have to defend against his speed at all three levels.
- How QB Dillon Gabriel handles pressure from Dolphins' defense — QB Dillon Gabriel will start his third game this season, and his first in Huntington Bank Field. He will face a Dolphins' defense that can use multiple looks in pressure and coverages. The Dolphins have recorded 12 sacks this season, with LB Bradley Chubb leading Miami with four sacks. They have forced seven fumbles and recovered five, and have one interception by S Minkah Fitzpartrick. In his first two games, Gabriel has been sacked eight times, but has not thrown an interception. How Gabriel handles the different looks and pressure that comes with their defensive line will determine the success of the offense and his ability to find his pass catchers to move the ball through the air, as the Dolphins give up an average of 220.8 passing yards per game.
- How the Browns utilize the run game — After struggling to establish the run consistently in Week 6, the Browns have another opportunity to utilize the run game against the Dolphins. Miami gives up the most rushing yards per game in the league, averaging 168.5 rushing yards allowed per game. The Browns have continued to rely on RB Quinshon Judkins, who has rushed for 383 yards on 84 carries in five games. He is averaging 4.6 rushing yards per carry, but has broken through for a handful of explosive runs in his first five games. The Browns can use the run game to move the ball downfield and put them in positions to score, as well as create opportunities for the pass game to open up.
