BEREA, Ohio – Cleveland Browns' DE Alex Wright has been selected by his teammates as the Browns 2025 Ed Block Courage Award recipient. The Ed Block Courage Award is given annually to a member of each of the 32 NFL teams who best exemplifies the qualities of Ed Block – the former head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Colts – based on courage, compassion, commitment and community.
"I'm truly honored to receive the Ed Block Courage Award. I'm grateful for my teammates for recognizing me and pushing me every step of the way, and to our training staff for their constant support and guidance to help me get back on the field," said Browns DE Alex Wright. "Any strength people see in me comes from the support of my family, friends and my coaches at every level and I'll continue to put in the work day in and day out that got me here."
A third-round pick by the Browns in the 2022 NFL Draft, Wright has grown into a dependable presence on the field and in the community. Over his four seasons in Cleveland, he has appeared in 46 games, totaling 84 tackles, nine sacks, seven passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries and recently signed a three-year extension with the team. In 2024, Wright's season ended abruptly when he suffered a triceps injury in Week 4 against the Raiders, but despite the setback he remained engaged with the team throughout his recovery, continuing to work to get back with the team and on the field.
During his time with the Browns, Wright has been active in Browns Give Back's efforts and the team's commitment to education, youth football and creating equitable opportunities for advancement in the Northeast Ohio community and beyond. Throughout the year, Wright has participated in various events such as Gym Class Takeover which works in tandem with the Browns' Stay in the Game! Attendance Network by providing school-based activities to further engage students and increase school attendance. This summer, Wright also hosted his annual youth football camp in his hometown of Elba, Alabama to inspire and motivate the next generation of athletes.
Each NFL team participating in the Ed Block Courage Award Foundation program selects a "Courage House" that supports victims of abuse, violence and neglect. The Browns' Courage House is Providence House; a crisis nursery dedicated to keeping kids safe and families together to prevent foster care placements by embracing them with support during times of crisis to help enhance stability. Since 1981, Providence House has served more than 20,000 children and families across Northeast Ohio. With this honor, Wright becomes an Ambassador of Courage for victims of abuse, violence and neglect.
Wright will be recognized as the Browns' Ed Block Courage Award recipient during Providence House's 30th Annual Deck the House Benefit Auction at Huntington Bank Field on Tuesday, Dec. 9th beginning at 6 p.m.
Providence House's Deck the House and the 2025 Ed Block Courage Award presentation are highlights of Browns Give Back's "Month of Giving." Throughout the month of December, Browns players, alumni, coaches, staff members, partners and fans are participating in special community events and making meaningful contributions to deserving organizations and individuals as part of the team's yearlong commitment to promoting education, youth football while creating equitable opportunities for advancement as well as inspiring others through the signature First and Ten volunteering movement.
Deck the House is Providence House's largest fundraiser of the year to help keep kids safe and families together by supporting them through crisis. Community members are invited to participate in the Silent Auction or make a gift online by visiting deckthehouse.givesmart.com until 8:15 pm on Tuesday, December 9.
