The Browns held their final practice for the week on Wednesday in a joint practice with the Panthers ahead of their first preseason game on Aug. 8.
Before the joint practice, head coach Kevin Stefanski said they will rest several of their starters for the first preseason game. He used the joint practice as a chance to get reps for the veterans and starters, with the idea of using the preseason game reps for younger players.
"We'll rest some starters. Some players will play, obviously holding out some guys due to injury," Stefanski said.
QB Dillon Gabriel and QB Kenny Pickett and are among the players who will not play on Friday, as both are returning from hamstring injuries. Both Gabriel and Pickett participated in 7-on-7 drills during the joint practice. Stefanski said the only two quarterbacks who will see game action are QB Shedeur Sanders and QB Tyler Huntley.
Stefanski said that they will also hold out WR Jerry Jeudy and WR Cedric Tillman from the first preseason game against the Panthers, but the rest of the other receivers will see playing time.
CB Greg Newsome II, who is dealing with a shoulder injury, was limited in Wednesday's practice. Stefanski added that Newsome continues to progress back from his injury.
G Zak Zinter did not participate in Wednesday's practice, as Stefanski said he stayed back in Cleveland. Zinter left Monday's practice early.
