Receivers Preview_7.7.25

The Browns are about two weeks away from players reporting back to CrossCountry Mortgage Campus for the beginning of training camp. To prepare for training camp, associate editor Kelsey Russo is putting together a preview for each position on the roster. Catch up on other position previews on the quarterbacks, defensive line, offensive line and linebackers. Next up, let's look at the wide receivers.

The Wide Receivers:

David Bell
DeAndre Carter
Kaden Davis
Luke Floriea
Jaelen Gill
Jerry Jeudy
Diontae Johnson
Kisean Johnson
Gage Larvadain
Cade McDonald
Jamari Thrash
Cedric Tillman
Michael Woods II

What we know: The Browns have a plethora of talent in the wide receiver room with a solid mix of veteran players and young players. They added veterans DeAndre Carter and Diontae Johnson in the offseason and have younger players like Jamari Thrash and Cedric Tillman who are looking to increase their roles in their second and third seasons, respectively. Tillman also returns healthy for the 2025 season and could re-establish his role in the unit – one that he was stepping into during the 2024 season in his 11 games. The talent in the receiving corps will give options to whomever is the starting quarterback for the Browns with their abilities to stretch the defense and create more space in the middle of the field.

The biggest question: Who steps into the No. 2 receiver role alongside Jeudy? With the departure of Elijah Moore in free agency, the Browns have a gap to role to fill in the offense. They have a number of options in their receiving corps to do so, from young players who are stepping into larger roles like Tillman, to veterans like Carter and Johnson brought in during the offseason to bring depth and veteran presence to the room.

"What I'm most excited about is the strengths of this group as a whole," pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach Chad O'Shea said. "I'm excited about our rookie class, about how hard they work and what they've done. And I'm excited about a lot of players that have worked hard to be here and to really make a difference for our team."

They have depth in the group and talent across the board, which will help in building out the depth chart behind Jeudy and the second receiver spot. However, the Browns must sort out in training camp and the preseason who will serve as the No. 2 receiver and line up opposite of Jeudy.

See how Jerry Jeudy is leading the receiving corps and which players are shaping the remainder of the wide receiver room

The biggest number: 90. It was a career year across the board for Jeudy, as he set a career high and led the team with 90 receptions during the 2024 season for a total of 1,229 receiving yards and four touchdowns. His production during his first season with the Browns played a large role in the pass game as he was also targeted 145 times – the most of any of their pass catchers – and the Browns will need that same level of production from their lead receiver in 2025.

The X-Factor: Jeudy. After breaking 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his career in his first season with the Browns, Jeudy's role as their lead receiver will play an important part in the success of the offense. In 2024, he averaged 13.7 yards per catch, with his longest catch totaling 89 yards. He also recorded 387 receiving yards after the catch during the 2024 season, showcasing his ability to extend plays. As the Browns look to establish the pass game and use their pass catchers to stretch the field, Jeudy's ability to excel with his route running and create separation from defenses will not only help him succeed, but also the Browns' offense succeed.

"I didn't start of my season last year how I ended it, but I just stayed patient," Jeudy said. "I kept working, kept my focus and kept working on my craft. And eventually, I was able to perform and show what I can do. And that's what I'm going to continue to keep doing."

Says it all: "I'm excited to see the growth in the offense, see how we compete and see how we're going to do this year just putting up points and winning games. That's what I'm most excited about." – Jerry Jeudy on the outlook of the 2025 season
