Storylines to Watch
- Dillon Gabriel's first NFL career start — The Browns announced a quarterback change heading into Week 5, naming rookie Dillon Gabriel as the starting quarterback. The matchup against the Vikings will be his first NFL career start during the regular season. Gabriel as appeared in two games this season, entering late in the fourth quarter in Week 2 against the Ravens and Week 4 against the Lions. He completed 3 of 3 passing attempts for 19 yards and one touchdown in Week 2, finding RB Dylan Sampson in the end zone each for their first career touchdowns. Gabriel then did not complete his lone passing attempt in Week 4 against the Lions.
- How the Browns' defense pressures QB Carson Wentz — The Browns' defense has an opportunity to apply ample pressure to Vikings QB Carson Wentz, who has been sacked nine times in his first two games with the Vikings — including six by the Steelers in Week 5. Wentz also threw two interceptions in Week 4 against the Steelers, and has completed 44 of 66 passing attempts for 523 passing yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, the Browns have totaled 11 sacks and 24 quarterback pressures through the first four games of the season, as well recorded two takeaways on interceptions. If the Browns can pressure Wentz into difficult situations and limit his ability to connect with receivers and move the ball downfield, they can force the Vikings to end offensive drives without scoring.
- How the Browns utilize the run game — Even with a change at quarterback, the Browns are working to create offensive rhythm and find success. One way to create that rhythm is to turn to the run game, which has continued to improve over the course of the season. The Browns are averaging 84.8 rushing yards per game, ranked 30th in the league, but the addition of RB Quinshon Judkins is helping to build consistency in the run game. Judkins leads the team with 237 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Vikings are also giving up 130.3 rushing yards per game this season, ranked 24th in the league. The Browns can look to take advantage of the chance to gain yardage and move the ball on the ground against the Vikings.
