The Browns earned their first win of the 2025 season in a comeback fashion, scoring 13 unanswered points late in the fourth quarter through the efforts of all three sides of the ball. Two made field goals, an interception, a rushing touchdown and a blocked field goal set the Browns up to come away with the 13-10 victory over the Packers.
"Really proud of that football team in there, feeding off of each other," head coach Kevin Stefanski said. "Was not always easy. And listen, that's a great football team on the other side. I have a ton of respect for Coach (Matt) LaFleur and that group. That's a great, great team. And we battled to the end and made those plays when we needed to and just fed off of each other and complemented each other."
Here are three takeaways from the Browns' win over the Packers.
Andre Szmyt's perfect day in the kicking game
With two seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter, K Andre Szmyt lined up his kick from 55 yards out. After the ball was snapped and secured by P Corey Bojorquez, Szmyt took his steps forward, planted his left foot and kicked the ball. He watched the ball sail through the uprights as the clock hit 0:00, before he was swarmed by his teammates for winning the game 13-10.
"I'm really proud of that young man," Stefanski said. "I'm happy for that young man. He's been through a lot, and he came through. So, really happy for him."
While Szmyt's game-winning field goal highlighted the day, he also made two other key kicks that played an important role in the Browns' win. The Browns were held scoreless through the first three quarters of the game, but late in the fourth quarter after an offensive drive stalled, they were in position for a field goal. Szmyt took the field to kick a 35-yard field goal, putting the Browns' first points of the game on the board.
Just 37 seconds later, after an interception by S Grant Delpit set the Browns up in the red zone and RB Quinshon Judkins ran the ball in for a rushing touchdown, Szmyt took the field again for the extra point attempt. His made extra point tied the game at 10 apiece.
He capped off his perfect kicking day with the 55-yard field goal as time expired, securing their first win of the season. Szmyt scored seven of the Browns' 13 points against the Packers.
"I think this sums up the job title pretty well," Szmyt said. "Look Corey (Bojorquez) and Rex (Sunahara) did a fantastic job, Shelby (Harris) on that blocked field goal. And the offense just getting us in range to make that kick. Couldn't have done it without those guys."
Szmyt said the 55-yard game winner may be one of the biggest kicks of his career. He had felt confident from that range, as he had practiced from that distance in pregame warmups to help him be prepared a long-distance field goal. As he watched the blocked field goal and the offense take the field, he mentally prepared for the possibility of kicking a field goal.
"I was just kind of getting ready," Szmyt said. "They didn't necessarily have to tell me. I was like okay, we're going to hit this. Same thing, stick with my process. I trust those guys with my life, so it makes my job easier."
Szmyt's start as the Browns' kicker has had some small ups and downs, as he missed a key extra point and field goal in Week 1 against the Bengals. He then kicked a perfect game in the Browns' 41-17 loss to the Ravens, making both field goal attempts and two extra points.
On Friday, Szmyt popped up on the injury report with a left calf injury. Stefanski said Szmyt would have imaging done to evaluate the injury and was deemed to not have an injury status heading into Sunday's game.
"I knew I was going to try to get through it no matter what," Szmyt said. "It was just a little sore. The trainer did a great job alleviating some of the tightness. I just went out there and felt good."

Defense stifles QB Jordan Love and Packers' offense
The Browns' defense continued its stretch of bottling up offenses and applying pressure to opposing quarterbacks. They limited the Packers' explosive play ability and stopped the run.
They held the Packers' run game to 81 net rushing yards, and RB Josh Jacobs to 30 rushing yards on 16 carries. The longest run of the day was for 10 yards by QB Jordan Love. The Browns recorded six tackles for loss, keeping the Packers from gaining positive yardage and moving the sticks.
They also totaled five sacks on Love for a loss of 34 yards, with that pressure coming from across the front seven. DT Maliek Collins led the team with 1.5 sacks, while DE Alex Wright and LB Carson Schwesinger each added a sack of their own. DE Myles Garrett, DT Adin Huntington and DT Mason Graham each recorded half a sack. The Browns had seven quarterback hits alongside the five sacks.
"I feel like we were getting pressure on them all day, put them on the ground, getting hits on him and just trying to frustrate him, and if he didn't get it out quickly, we were taking him down," Garrett said. "So, I think it maybe it generated some of those big plays, some of the takeaways that we got, and that's what we need."
The Packers found a level of success through the air, as they totaled 149 net passing yards, and Green Bay's lone touchdown came on a short pass from Love to John FitzPatrick for a 3-yard touchdown. However, the Browns limited the Packers' ability to rip off multiple explosive plays, as the longest reception of the game came from WR Matthew Golden on a 34-yard pass completion. Love finished the game completing 18 of 25 passing attempts for 183 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
"Shoutout to that Browns' defense, flying around, getting to the ball, limiting yards. We are looking great," Delpit said. "Shoutout to the offense they got it done, that is a step forward."
The Browns also recorded their first takeaway of the season, as Delpit picked off Love late in the fourth quarter and returned the interception for 25 yards. His interception set up the Browns' offense to score their lone touchdown of the day.
"I was able to bait the quarterback a little bit and jump the route. And got the offense the ball back," Delpit said. "Emphasis on getting the ball back to our offense this week, complementary football."
Since training camp, the Browns' defense has emphasized the importance of being able to cause takeaways, including interceptions, to get the ball back to the offense and create game-changing plays as a unit. The interception proved to play a key role in the Browns' win over the Packers.
"I mean, we've been doing everything else pretty well, and we've been holding a lot of teams to low yardage and for most part and taking the ball away," Garrett said. "We had our hand on the football multiple times, and we came up with it when we needed to."
Special teams with key blocked field goal
After experiencing some issues in certain special teams units in the first two weeks of the season, the field goal unit came through in a critical way against the Packers.
Green Bay's field goal unit lined up with 27 seconds left in the game for a 43-yard field goal attempt by K Brandon McManus. As the ball left McManus' foot and began to sail upward, DT Shelby Harris raised his arm above pile and got his hands on the ball, blocking the field goal.
Harris said as they lined up for the field goal, he surveyed different factors of the Packers' field goal unit to prepare for a chance to block the kick.
"You gotta look where they're kicking the ball, you know what I mean?" Harris said. "Is the ball going to be tailing to the left, is it going to be tailing to the right? Depending on that, you got to think they're going to try to make it through the middle, so depending on what side of the line you're on, that determines really what hand needs to get up to block it too. Everything could be perfect, and you still don't get it. It's just… everything worked out perfect."
The ball then bounced, and both teams swarmed to try and recover the ball, but CB Greg Newsome II fell on the ball for the recovery. The blocked kick not only kept the Packers from scoring a game-winning field goal but also set up the Browns for one final offensive drive and the eventual game-winning field goal.
"Really proud of the effort from that group," Stefanski said. "We want to play well on all three sides of the ball, and to come through with a huge block and Shelby got it – which Shelby has about 1,000 of those in his career – so Shelby got one, and then they hit that kick at the end, it's great for that group."
