A sea of brown and orange dominated the green bleachers and sides of the practice fields at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus as Day 3 of 2025 Browns Training Camp continued with fans attentively watching.

Cleveland continued the emphasis on tuning up for the start of the season, with head coach Kevin Stefanski making sure the fans got to watch the two sides of the ball battle against one another.

Continuing the trend of Day 2, the third day of training camp consisted of 11-on-11, 7-on-7 and red zone team drills while also adding a wide receiver versus defensive back drill near the beginning. Towards the end of practice, Stefanski has a period he's calling the opportunity period, allowing players to get more practice in.

"The idea there is some of the guys that aren't getting a ton of reps, let's go get a team period yesterday," Stefanski said. "We did skills and drills today. We'll do a 7-on-7 another day. It's just an opportunity for those guys to get better."

Here are the top observations from the third day of training camp:

WR vs. DB one-on-one drill

The wide receivers and defensive backs went head-to-head for the first time during training camp, with the quartet of quarterbacks throwing to them.

Offensively, WR DeAndre Carter made two receptions during the drill, including a toe tap in the end zone, getting a reception each from QB Joe Flacco and QB Kenny Pickett.

WR Jamari Thrash got the best of CB Greg Newsome II, juking him on the route and getting open for a touchdown, his only reception of the drill. WR Luke Floriea, WR Diontae Johnson and WR Cedric Tillman also added a reception each for the offense.

Newsome II got his revenge on Thrash, deflecting a pass down to the ground from Pickett. CB Martin Emerson Jr. got the best of Tillman on the first rep of the drill and CB Denzel Ward knocked down a pass that Flacco tried to loft over his head helping them win the drill. The play of the drill from the defense came from CB Myles Harden, who caught up to a deep ball from Pickett to Floriea, knocking it away for an incompletion.

At the end of the period, the defense caused more incompletions than the offense had completions, meaning the offense had to do pushups.

Running Back Repetition

After the defense slowed down the running backs on Day 2 of training camp, the position group bounced back on Day 3.

The running backs worked with the quarterbacks at the beginning of practice, receiving handoffs and running routes, practicing their versatility.

On the first play of 11-on-11, RB Dylan Sampson broke through the gap between the center and right guard for a gain before the defense caught up to him. A few plays later, FB Troy Hairston tried to run up the middle but bounced out to the right on the second effort, managing to gain a couple of yards.

RB Pierre Strong Jr. showed off in front of the fans, getting a good gain on a toss play to the right and following that up with a long reception from QB Dillon Gabriel. RB Ahmani Marshall got some work done on the day as well. During 11-on-11, lined up behind QB Shedeur Sanders, he went right in between his blockers. Two plays later, he ran to the right for a long gain, crossing the 50-yard line.

Defensive Highlights

While the run game improved from yesterday, the defense had its share of plays as well to its credit. Thanks to a staunch defensive line and collapsing the pocket around the quarterback and running back, the defense was able to stop run plays at the line of scrimmage.

During red zone 7-on-7, the secondary largely held the offense out of the end zone, playing tight coverage on the pass catchers, along with the defensive line creating pressure in the pocket. Pickett had the lone touchdown of the drill, finding Carter right on the edge of the white paint in the end zone for a toe tap touchdown. Flacco had a share of solid passes, getting back-to-back completions within the five-yard line, with one to Thrash and the other to Tillman.

Following S Grant Delpit's interception from Day 2's practice, the safeties had two on Day 3, both coming during 11-on-11 play. Second-year S Christopher Edmonds and S Ronnie Hickman picked off passes during the drill in separate periods, resulting in the defense coming together to dap everyone up during both instances.
